NODAL POWER HIGHLIGHTS

  • Nodal set a year-to-date record in power futures with traded volume of 2.600 billion MWh as of the end of October, up 10% from 2.357 billion MWh during the same period in 2023.
  • In October, Nodal Exchange traded volume was 299 million MWh, up 23% from October 2023.
  • Open interest at the end of October for power futures was 1.416 billion MWh.

NODAL ENVIRONMENTAL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Nodal set a calendar month record and the highest October on the exchange in environmental futures and options trading with volume of 154,119 lots, up 621% from October 2023.
  • Open interest in environmental markets reached 458,985 lots in October, up 67% from October 2023.

NODAL NATURAL GAS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Nodal set a year-to-date record in natural gas futures with 768,447,500 MMBtus in traded volume, up 261% from the same period in 2023.

Nodal Exchange achieves new records in its power (up 23%), environmental (up 621%) and natural gas (up 261%) markets

Nodal Exchange announced new trading records in its power, environmental and natural gas markets. In power, Nodal achieved a year-to-date record with January to October 2024 traded power futures volume of 2.600 billion MWh, up 10% from 2.357 billion MWh during the same period in 2023. In October, Nodal Exchange traded volume was 299 million MWh, up 23% from October 2023. Nodal continues to be the market leader in North American power futures having the majority share of the open interest with 1.416 billion MWh at the end of October. The open interest represents over $124 billion of notional value (both sides).

October volume in environmental products totaled 154,119 lots, up 621% from 21,368 lots a year earlier, setting a new monthly record on the exchange. Total open interest ended October at 458,985 lots, up 67% from 274,849 lots a year earlier.

Nodal Exchange sponsored the S&P Global Commodity Insights Nodal Trader Conference last month. Paul Cusenza, Chairman and CEO of Nodal was Conference Chair. Caroline Gentry, Director, Environmental Markets at Nodal shared insights on the panel discussing “New Directions in Environmental Markets.” June Yu, Senior Manager, Risk & Strategic Analysis at Nodal, moderated the panel on “Managing Risk in Climate and Trading.”

Nodal also hosted its annual Nodal Trader Reception on Thursday where our trading and clearing community could connect.
